Hate me or Love me

I have to share something. Hate me or Love me for it ;-)

But here's my opinion on horse training.
Humans tend to humanize animals - horses. One thing that is scientifically proven is that a horse don't have brain capacity to show: Dominance, disrespect, being jealous, being naughty etc. It's a big mistake Many people makes AND the horse can't read our body language. What makes people believe that a horse understands our body language? We are very different, as day and night. The horse has four legs, a tail, a mane, etc. We have two legs, our eyes are close together. Everything contradicts that a horse can understand our body language. EVERYTHING is about learning. It's not about respect!

Here's something to think about. And no I'm not mad. Just a bit annoyed that people don't want to open their eyes :-)

Unusually good

Giga was quite unusually good today. That horse confuses me very much! She did all the tricks without any flaws. I could ride her with a beautiful raised back and neck. She was like a dream today. Everything went just perfect. Strange horse! I don't understand it xD!
I had thought that I really had to work hard with her today but that horse manage to always surprise me!

Andalusian stallion?

I don't quite think that Giga understands that she's a heavy Irish Cob. Let's just let her think she is an Andalusian stallion ;-D

"Brain bleeding"

I've had some really good days with Giga the past few days. It's nice weather and I can be out on the farm for many hours.

One of my girlfriends took a lot of beautiful pictures of us out in the woods today. However Giga had a smaller "brain bleeding". I honestly don't know what went wrong today. But her temperament was very physical and violent. So I was forced to take hard hold of her several times. Very weird, one thing is certain, this is the first and last time this happens.

But otherwise it was a nice day ...

 More pictures are coming soon.

Oh Happy Day!

Oh my, a academic saddle is in sight! I just love to get a letter which says that my previous work has forgotten to pay my holiday allowance :-D So now it may be that within the next month I have this beautiful saddle -->

Giga is going to try it on Monday. I hope it fits!!!

Whew it's hot!

Whew, it's hot in Denmark right now. It only get's hotter and hotter. I felt it was REALLY hot yesterday (+24), so I chose only to bathe Giga and feed her, I couldn't get myself to ride her in that heat. But I hadn't exactly anticipated that it would be +26 degrees today. Anyways, I went out and rode her in the woods. I rode along with a friend. Giga was pretty sweet, despite some small irritation moments. At least her behavior is on the right track.

If there's one thing Giga hates, it's flies. She waves with her tail all the time, she can't handle it, crazy horse :-P

Random video from today

Just a random video of Giga from today...

So Hot!

I've had a FANTASTIC day! Today was the hottest day unto this year in Denmark. It was about 24+ degrees, now think, I rode in a tanktop and I was still hot? Lovely!

The first hour I spent just sitting and talking with some girlfriends on the outdoor arena. It was too hot to any of us bother to ride seriously. Afterwards I rode alone into the woods. Giga was at first very alert and nervous. But after a while she fell down and was fairly calm. It's afterall about 3,5 weeks since I last rode her in the woods.

After our wonderful ride. Giga got a proper cool bath. I don't think she has ever enjoyed a cold shower as much as she did today. She stood as if she was planted into the ground. She didn'´t move a muscle :-)

Chill day

Today I had my boyfriend with me out to Giga. It was really nice. He is quite afraid of Giga most because of her size but he did well. Today I trained Spanish Steps and then afterwards I walked and trotted a little on her. Unfortunately, I had many things I had to do today. Tomorrow I expect that I'll ride off into the woods. I hope the weather is good!

Haha, It's A-Okay!

Not bad!?

Homemade Halter

My first attempt to create a halter. It was a little too big, but practice makes perfect, I guess :-P?
All in all I am quite happy with the outcome. I have several projects started. Interesting, huh?

A little tip

Is your horse afraid for the sound of a spray bottle?
A horse's brain can't grasp several things at once. If you distract the brain the horse won't notice the "danger" it fears. So try to take your spray bottle while holding a water hose. While washing the horse's legs, begin to use your spray bottle. The horse will most likely not react and so you can praise it. And just as quietly, you can remove the distraction and then get a positive result.

A lovely picture

Passivity, control, is the essence of everything that exists... endless possibilities..
Good night dear friends....

One Happy Horse

I can just say that it only goes forward with Giga. At the moment there is just praise for that horse. She rests well in herself and she's very calm and manageable. Which is really nice. I look forward to my extended weekend. I'm free both tomorrow and Friday.

Here's a little video of my happy horse. She loves to walk free down to the field :-D

Sorry for the bad quality.

My German Shepherd

It's nice to have a shepherd when you don't bother training your horse.

Dressage event

Yesterday I visited my brother. He lives about 40 minutes from me. I went up and saw his daughter - my niece, riding a dressage event on her pretty little pony.

She did so well, I'm so proud of her. She has come a long way. My brother is a rider, so she gets the proper education.

She thought she did poorly, but she won the class with 74%. Not bad ... I knew she would win ;-)

Another fantastic day

I have had another fantastic day. Giga is just the sweetest and calmest horse at the moment. I wonder whether the new food already works? But in any case she's really nice to be around. Today we trained a little improvement of her bad shape, she sweats rapidly and can't hold a pace for so long. We trained a lot of trot in different tempos. And we trained on the Spanish steps. She can now lift her legs when I sit on her :-)

Glorious day

What a glorious day. I've just had one of those days where everything just goes well and as it should - it happens very seldom in my life, not to say almost never. But I went up to Giga after work. She was really tense at the grooming area, so I took my whip and made some stop and go exercises and after 5 minutes she stood still. I must say that Andrew McLean's methods is pretty effective. After that everything went really well. She was fantastic to ride and for the first we completed an entire outdoor arena with Spanish steps. Good girl.

If only I had Victor and Baltazar with me. I miss them so bad!

BTW. don't ride in tight jeans!

700 horses moving

If you have ever wondered what a herd of 700 horses looks like moving here it is! Unedited video footage of the Sombrero horses as they go through Maybell. Taken during the EPN Sombrero workshop, on a Canon 5d. Running 3 minutes, it is a LOT of horses!

A really good day

Today has been a really good day, although I just have been really sick. But I thought it should not stop me from training my boys in the good weather. I drove a long trip with Baltazar in the woods. Once again we enjoyed it so much. He loves getting out and seeing "the world" with me. He's just so sweet!

I rode Victor on the outdoor arena without  saddle. It's wonderful to ride bareback on a horse that is so calm. As I wrote yesterday it is nice to feel 110% safe, I'll always be a little nervous on Gigas back because of her temperament. All my horses have good and bad sides and it has its charm!

4 May 2012

Eventful day!

Today I have achieved quite much. I have been SO energetic, do not ask me why because I'm pretty sick still. But I started the day with extending the fence to the horses so they could get some grass. Oh, how they stood and waited, as you can see in the picture:

When we opened the gate to the grass was Baltazar and Victor the first ones to run in. On the other side stood Molle and looked, he didn't realize we had opened the fence, it took him 3 min. before he saw it. He's just a small baby, next time he's for sure the first one getting to the grass.

Later I went into the forest along with Baltazar. I "saddle" him up, and fasten him to his little wagon and then we were well on our way to an adventure in the forest. I've completely forgotten how much fun such a ride is. It was great to see how much Balte enjoyed it. He really loves to do something. He is so happy and proud, especially when he has the wagon behind him. We had a good gallop, it was awesome.

Then I went into the forest along with Victor. I miss riding him. It's great that I can ride off into the woods without a saddle without a bit in his mouth and not be afraid that he runs with me. He's so calm and quiet. I can always feel safe on his back. It was a really nice trip. However, we got us a big shock on the way home. A little girl about 8 years old came galloping up on her pony, she did not stop and rode right past us. - And therefore little girls should not ride alone in the woods, they have no sense of responsibility and respect for the dangers they expose themselves and others to. Victor got pretty frightened and wanted to gallop after the pony. So I had to jump off and calm him down. When they were out of sight I jumped up on him again and so we rode quietly home. What an eventful day!

Brushing time

Tonight I brushed Baltazar from "head to hoof". He needed it very much, unfortunately. I feel so guilty that I can't be with my two boys every day. Baltazar enjoyed it fully. That pony is just so good and kind as the day is long!

I trained him a little on the outdoor arena. We played and had a great time. He can just give me a big smile on my lips.

3 May 2012

Bittersweet

It's somewhat a bittersweet feeling I'm sitting with right now. It's really nice to see my boy Victor but there's just a huge "setback" in everything regarding behavior, shape, etc. As well as his beautiful hair is long gone. Sucks, should I sell him?

I have thought much of selling him but then I go out and play with him in the paddock and look into his beautiful brown eyes and then I remember how much I struggled to get him and how much I really love him :-(
But it's just not fair that he goes every month and is doing nothing...

Positive news

I have some postive news (maybe), BUT I think I found the blame for Gigas extremely fiery temper. I think it's the food's fault. I found out it contains:

Wheat, barley, molasses, soybean flour, wheat bran, soya beans, corn, salt, ground limestone, vitamins / minerals and herbs.

It may well be there's no oats in the food, but it haves quite a lot of grains in it! It's really not good for a cold blooded horse. So tomorrow I'm going to buy some new food for my girl :-)

Today she's was actually really nice and calm. I traind a LOT on her stop and go signal, she really needs to learn to wait. It was really hot, about 20 degrees +. So it maybe influenced her to be more calm and tired. Who knows :-P?
